West makes effective use out of long silences and dark spaces, and also uses the audience's own imagination to fill in the blanks for what some of the characters are seeing. The setting of the hotel was also terrific - I can imagine a filmmaker finding this building and thinking, "I have to make a movie here." The film left some questions unanswered, but life always does! It was not full of jump scares, just a relationship between people working at an old Inn.
